On April 29, a delegation headed by Professor Yahong Liu, Vice President of South China Agricultural University (SCAU), visited UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (UCD CII). Professor Liming Wang, Director of UCD CII, greeted the delegation. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the cooperation between SCAU and UCD and the importance of the development of Confucius Institutes abroad.
Professor Liu expressed appreciation for the contributions of Professor Wang in setting up the links between SCAU and UCD. The existing 2+2 degree programme with UCD College of Life Sciences has not only brought closer cooperation between two universities, but also contributes to delivering the relevant modules in Bioscience and Food Engineering to Chinese students in the SCAU. Professor Liu pointed out that the SCAU should also become one of the most attractive employers for UCD graduates apart from sending high caliber students to UCD through the 2+2 degree programme.
During the meeting, Professor Wang briefed the visitors on the 10 years’ development of UCD CII and emphasized the important role played by the Confucius Institute in promoting cooperation and communication between universities in China and abroad. The Confucius Institute, even though still young, has become the organization that could outreach to local communities at grassroots level, in parallel with promoting Chinese language and culture among primary schools, secondary schools as well as universities. As an irreplaceable platform, the Confucius Institute contributes to building up a bridge of mutual understanding between China and the world.
