The 9th World Chinese Bridge Secondary School Students Chinese Proficiency Competition for Ireland was held in Cork and hosted by the UCC Confucius Institute for Ireland and UCC School of Asian Studies on the 27th of February 2016. A total of 78 secondary school students from Dublin, Cork, Galway and other regions participated in the competition. Invited guests at the competition include Chris O’Leary, Lord Mayor of Cork, Xiaochuang Wu, First Secretary of the Education Division of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland, Fei Huang, First Secretary of the Culture Division of the Chinese Embassy, Jakie Sheehan, Head of the School of Asian Studies of UCC as well as the Chinese directors of the two Confucius Institutes in Ireland. The splendid gala was hosted by UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland for the 10th time, in conjunction with Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ireland as well as local Chinese community. Spring Festival Gala February 18th, 2016 This year, 2016, is the Year of the Monkey, and the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland, in conjunction with the Chinese Embassy will be hosting a Spring Festival Gala in the Convention Centre Dublin on February 18th. Please join us for the celebration from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. The Spring Festival Gala, to celebrate the Chinese New Year, has become a popular annual event and a showcase for cultural diversity, which provides us with an opportunity to demonstrate traditional Chinese culture as well as to celebrate the Chinese New Year with both Irish and Chinese. We are delighted to present this event with special guest appearance by China National Opera and Dance Drama Theatre Opera Troupe whilst the students from UCD Confucius Institute will also perform in the Gala. Furthermore, the acoustics in the Convention Centre should enhance this special performance. Admission is free. The tickets will be available for collection on a “first come, first serve” basis since February 8th from our Institute. The Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland, along with the Confucius Institute at UCC and UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland, hosted a seminar for Volunteer Chinese Teachers Teaching Experience on January 31, 2016. Present at the seminar were Mr. Xiaochuang Wu, First Secretary of the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland; Mr. Changlin Gao, First Secretary of the Science and Technology Section of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland, and Chinese Directors of the two above-mentioned Confucius Institutes. On January 16, 2016, Dublin Confucius Class for Children was successfully launched at UCD and welcomed more than one hundred children with a range of ages, races, and language levels. The Class is a joint venture between UCD Confucius Institute and Aihua Chinese School. This Chinese learning programme for children initially includes 11 classes in total. Read more...
